James Viers

James Adron Viers, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at Caro Community Hospital on Monday, June 8, 2009. Jim was born July 11, 1924 in Martha Gap, Virginia, the son of the late Issac Patterson & Bessie Bell (Sykes) Viers. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II until his discharge in April of 1946. After the war, Jim was united in marriage with the former Mary R. Stallard on February 7, 1948 in Clintwood, Virginia. When Jim returned to Virginia after the war, he farmed for a while and worked in the coal mines before going to Detroit for employment in the auto industry, spending the last twenty-eight years as a mechanic for the City of Detroit. During his time in Detroit, Jim was active with the local VFW and the Masonic Lodge. When Jim and his wife Mary came to Caro in 1978, he transferred his membership to both organizations and was a Life Member of the Caro VFW Post #4164 and was a member of its Honor Guard and a Life Member of Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM. While in Caro, Jim attended the Caro First Baptist Church. Jims interest and love was for his family, veterans and working in his vegetable garden. Jim is survived by his loving wife of over sixty-one years, Mary R. Viers of Caro; one son, one daughter and their spouses, Tom & Kay Viers of Sand Pointe, Shirley & Dennis Janusch of New Baltimore; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Michael & Jennifer Viers, Amy & Darren Smithers, Curtis & Delanie Viers, Issac & Stacey Viers, Jonathon Viers, Brian & Wendy Ignash, Michael & Susan Ignash, Adam & Amy Janusch, Kimberly & Mark Ilijanic; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Viers of Belleville; two sisters-in-law, Nelva Viers of Christiansburg, Virginia, Loretta Viers of Haysi, Virginia and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jamie Viers and six brothers and one sister.
