Naomi Gertrude Smith, age 92, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw, following a brief illness. Naomi was born December 7, 1919 in Gustin, Michigan, the daughter of the late Raymond & Maude (Crosby) Smith. She was united in marriage with C. G. Brooker on July 4, 1961 in Birmingham, Michigan. He preceded her in death March 3, 1968. On October 7, 1970, Naomi married Alvin C. Smith in Unionville. Alvin preceded her in death on November 11, 2001. Naomis passion in life was working with and caring for children. She was a foster grandmother at McComb Elementary in Caro for the past ten years and ran a preschool program in the Detroit area in her younger years. She was an active member of the Colwood United Brethren in Christ Church in Caro and would often work at the nursery there. She was also an avid letter writer and enjoyed keeping in contact with friends and family. Naomi is survived by two step-daughters, Kathryn (Kendall) Hobart of Lutz, Florida, Marilyn Dickerson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, one brother and their spouses, Ruth Smith of Spruce, Elsie & Maynard Venema of Rockford, Betty & Delbert Casey of Stratford, Oklahoma, Dale & Janice Smith of Akron; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husbands, Naomi was preceded in death by three step-children, Theodore Brooker, Phyllis Brooker Kemp and Edison Brooker; as well as by three brothers and a sister, Clifford, Robert, Paul and Beatrice Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Colwood United Brethren in Christ Church in Caro with Rev. Jason Garwood officiating. Burial will follow at the Almer Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Colwood United Brethren in Christ Church Building Fund.
