Norburt Fader

Norburt J. Fader, 72, went to be with his Lord, Thursday May 25, 2006 at Brians House in Bay City, following a long, difficult illness. Norburt was born September 30, 1933 in Unionville, the son of the late William Carmie (Barrigar) Fader. After graduation from Unionville High School in 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Norburt married the former Catherine M. Thane on August 28, 1954. She preceded him in death in June of 2001. He was then united in marriage to Marilyn L. Thane-Smith on July 26, 2002 in Caro. Norburt was employed by General Motors for 41 years, retiring in January of 1993. He led a life of service to others. Along with volunteer service in his church, he volunteered in many service groups during his life. After his retirement from General Motors, where he was instrumental in fundraising for The United Way, he became active in the Caro Lions Club and the Caro American Legion Post #7 and assisted in many fundraising activities, his favorite being the Lions Den during the annual county fair. Norburt was an avid photographer that did wedding photos, graduation pictures and at one time, freelance work for TV5. Surviving, besides his wife, Marilyn, are seven children and their spouses, Steven (Elaine) Fader of Cedarville, Marsha Wright of Caro, Merrie Beth Schad of Kwajalein, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Karen (Kenneth) Avery of Caro, Julie (Steve) Priestley of Gagetown, Krista (Bob) Dean of Applegate, Melanie Smith of Caro; eleven grandchildren, Benjamin Wright of Grand Rapids, Jaynie-Lynn Wright of Lansing, Steven and Joshua Fader of Cedarville, Jodi (Justin) Mayo of Cadillac, Kyle, Zachery and Kelsey Priestley of Gagetown, Rebecca, Olivia and Mark Dean of Applegate; two great-grandsons, Christopher Fader of Oil City and David Mayo of Cadillac; two sisters, Hildy (Cliff) Bell of Unionville and Marguerite Havlichek of Flint; sisters-in-law, Maxine Bell of Unionville, Florence Thane of Sebewaing, Ramona Thane of Caro, Loretta Thane of Cass City and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Norburt was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior Norman Fader and by a sister, Alpha Robinson.
