Anna “Wanda” DeLong, age 93, loving and wonderful mother, grandmother and Nana joined our good Lord and many family members on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Medilodge of Howell.
She was born August 14, 1919 in Lloydsdale, Pennsylvania to the late Ludwig and Catherine Karwowski who moved their family of five daughters and one son to Michigan when Wanda was a baby.
She graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1937 and resided in Michigan where she worked 63 years of her life in the secretarial field for Motorola and with her husband, Nelson, in the property management field for North Park Communities, to name one.
Wanda and her husband Nelson also owned and operated a Baskin Robbins ice cream parlor in Troy during the mid 1970's. Upon Nelson’s retirement, they sold their home in Madison Heights and became resident property managers at North Park Square and later at North Park Towers in Southfield. After many years with North Park Communities Wanda retired in 1994. She spent several years living in Glendale, Arizona near her daughter before returning to Michigan. She and her husband are past parishioners of St. John Episcopal Church, Royal Oak.
Wanda is preceded in death by her cherished husband and the love of her life, Nelson, in 1990. She is survived by her daughter Judith Goulais and her husband Garfield of Whitmore Lake; grandchildren Alyse Kozfkay and Chad Pratt, Mark Matczak and his wife Robin; great-grandsons Connor, Mason, Logan, Kaedyn, Sawyer, and Landon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wanda had a love for finer things in life and enjoyed shopping for them, cooking dinners for family, casino trips and in her earlier years, traveling. Wanda inspired all who knew her with her joyful attitude, unselfish heart, bright smile, loving care and concern of others. She leaves her family a huge legacy of love and will live forever in their hearts.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Saturday, May 18th at St. Michael Catholic Church in Port Austin, with Fr. Nate Harburg presiding. Burial will be in New River Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. She will lie in-state one hour prior to the mass at St. Michael’s.
