Adina E. Knechtel

July 9, 1921 — June 20, 2013

Adina E. Knechtel, age 91, of Elkton died Thursday evening June 20,at Covenant Health Care, Saginaw.
She was born July 8, 1921 in Winsor Twp. at the home of her parents, the late Leonard and Cora (Voelker) Wing.
On December 19, 1942, she was united in marriage to Clarence E. Knechtel in Snover and moved to Elkton shortly after they were married. Clarence preceded her in death April 8, 1992.

Adina worked as a cook at the age of 21 at the “Poor Farm” (now called the medical care facility), but for the majority of her life, she was a homemaker.
She was a devoted member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, where she and Clarence were custodians for more than 15 years and was a member of the Huron County Extension Club for 25 years.

Adina was a loving, nurturing, caring, generous and praying mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt and great aunt. She was fun loving and had a comical wit. She was always so happy when she got a surprise phone call from one of her grandchildren. The calls always made her day! She always put others ahead of herself. Adina loved to bake for her family and friends as she welcomed many into her home. Just three weeks before her passing, she baked a rhubarb custard pie from scratch. What an act of sacrificial love! She was called "The Muffin Lady," because she baked so many bran/date muffins in her lifetime and gave many away to those who were grieving the loss of a loved one. We will ALL miss her, but we thank God for her nearly 92 years of life. Her favorite Bible verse was, “ In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go ad prepare A place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:2-3

Surviving are two daughters, Floris Wertz of Pigeon and Betty (Gordon) Freeman of Fairgrove; three grandchildren, Bryan (Angela) Wertz of Owosso, Kendall Shannon) Wertz of Goldsboro, NC and Stephanie (Larry) Eischer of Saginaw; Ten great grandchildren, Evan, Kenny, Allison, Megan, Autumn, Carson, Tiffany Ryan (Grace), Lauren and Chelsey; two brothers, Willard Wing of Sebewaing and Ronald (Maxine) Wing of Bad Axe.
Preceding her in death was her son-in-law, Dale Wertz; grandson, Rodney Wertz and sister-in-law, Reva Wing.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 25, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Pillow, pastor and Rev. Pete Crawford will officiate with burial in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon. Friends and family may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 PM Monday and at the church after 10 AM Tuesday.
