Alford E Wichert, age 90, of Bay Port, died Saturday afternoon, November 22, at he Huron County Medical Care Facility.
He was born November 19, 1913 at the home of his parents, the late Edwin and Matilda (Radloff) Wichert in the Quarry near Bay Port. Al Grew up at the quarry where he work on the quarry farm and in the quarry in his youth. In 1941, he joined the US Army and fought for his country 5 years during WW II in the Alusion Islands and Okinawa. On his return, he went back to the quarry for a time before taking a position with Kuhl Construction in Sebewaing, retiring in 1976.
. On June 26, 1953, he was united in marriage to Helen E. Farver at the Elkton Methodist Church; she preceded him in death, August 14, 2002.
He was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and the Tip of the Thumb VFW Post 2236, Pigeon.
Surviving are two sons, Tom Wichert of Elkton and his friend Mary Fritch and Jim and his wife, Bev of Sandusky; six grandchildren, Heather, Terry, Chris, Zach, Ashley and Elizabeth; two great granddaughters, Elyse and Sydney. Also, sisters-in-law, Lena Wichert of Pigeon, Flossie Maynard of Pinnebog, Luella Connors of Filion and Ulla Snider of Elkton; brothers-in-law, Floyd Farver, Henry (Marguerite) Farver of Elkton and Clifford (Mary) Farver of Oak Beach.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 25, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Pete Crawford, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 5 to 8 PM Sunday, 2 to5 and 7 to 9 PM Monday and at the church after 1 pm Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to the church or the medical care facility.
