Alice J. Stecker

Alice J. Stecker (Gangler) of Unionville, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Alice was born on March 19, 1945, in Bad Axe, Michigan, to the late Christopher and Amelia (York) Gangler and was a 1963 graduate of Unionville High School. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Leon “Le” Stecker, and the couple would share more than 62 years of loving marriage together. He survives her.

Le’s military service saw the couple move around extensively in the early years of their marriage. They spent a short bit of time in Texas before he was stationed at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico where she worked as a secretary for their top scientists and staff. After Le was drafted into the Vietnam War, Alice moved home to Unionville with her parents and when he returned home the pair made their way to K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in the Upper Peninsula. Alice and Le eventually put down roots in Unionville where Alice took on a position as secretary at the Tuscola County Tech Center, from where she retired in 1995.

Alice was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing and enjoyed fishing and antiquing in her free time, but most important to her was her beloved family. She cherished time with her children and grandchildren and is remembered as being a loving and caring woman who was beautiful inside and out.

Alice is survived by her beloved husband, Leon; children, Kevin (Kristy) Stecker and Patrick (Kari) Stecker; grandchildren, Laura Koenig, Megan Stecker, Jeffrey Stecker, Emma (Matthew VanSumeren) Stecker, Mia Stecker, and Avery Stecker; brother, Kenneth (Delores) Gangler; sister, June Colling; and sisters-in-law, Carole Gangler and Paula (Edward) Pelts; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her siblings, Caroline (Don) Dickson, Donald “Buff” Gangler, and Ronald “Pat” Gangler; two infant brothers; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Colling.
