Alize V. “Tommy” Raven of Linden, age 90, passed away at Caretel Inns of Linden on Thursday, August 11, 2011. She was born in Bedford County, Virginia, near Montvale, on February 22, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Zylpha (Craig) Atkins. Tommy graduated from Parkersburg, West Virginia, High School in 1939 and attended nursing training at Maryland General Hospital, becoming a registered nurse in 1943. She joined the Army Nurse Corps in November of1943 where she served as a Flight Nurse in the South Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. Tommy was united in marriage with Weston F. Raven in Bad Axe on September 4, 1946. They came to Caro in 1950 from Ohio when Weston was employed by Detroit Edison. Tommy was a member and former Deacon of the Caro First Presbyterian Church; a member of the Caro Community Hospital Auxiliary; life member and past Commander of the American Legion Post #7; and a life member of V.F.W Post 4164. Tommy is also registered in the Womens Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery which honors women who have served in our nations defense during all eras and in all services. Tommy is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Weston, of Linden; three children and their spouses, Karen Morison of Petoskey, John & Cindy Raven of Greenville, Sally & Paul Trisch of Linden; grandchildren and their spouses, Angus & Rachel Morison, Cole Morison, Holly & Larry Stone, Emily Raven, Andrew Raven, Jacquelyn Male, Joseph Male, Josh & Mary Male, Alex Trisch, Zach Trisch, and Jenna Trisch.
