Allan W. Nietzke

Allan William Nietzke, of Sebewaing, Michigan, passed away July 30, 2021, at the age of 79. After several months of declining health, Al died peacefully with his beloved children by his side.

Al was born in Sebewaing on June 24, 1942, to William and Verna (Currey) Nietzke.  As the only child, Al joined his parents working in their ice cream shop, The Blue Line Dairy in Sebewaing, from a very early age.  His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him to study accounting at Northeastern School of Commerce and earn his CPA license in 1969.

Al joined Leppien & Company in 1969. In 1979, his name was added to the firm's name and in 1992 the accounting firm reorganized as Nietzke & Faupel, PC.  He served as the firm's managing partner until 2001.  Al was active in the accounting profession at the local, state and national level. His achievements include serving as past president of the Michigan Association of CPAs and he was a member of the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council.  Al retired from public accounting in 2020.

Al was committed to his community and was active for many years in civic affairs.  As a member of the Jaycees, he served as chapter president twice and was awarded a JCI Senatorship.  He was a member of the Sebewaing Rotary Club, where he served as president twice and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. The highlight of Al's work with Rotary was serving as governor for Rotary District 6310 and overseeing many Michigan Rotary clubs. Over the years, he served as treasurer of the Scheurer Hospital Building Fund, the Sebewaing Medical Clinic board, the board of directors of the Sebewaing Chamber of Commerce and the Sebewaing Village Council. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, where he served as treasurer, vice-chairman and chairman of the congregation in addition to being an usher for more than twenty years.

Al married Karon May Weippert in August 1964 and together they had three children.  Over the years, Al and Karon enjoyed many travels, sharing a beer with friends, raucous card games and attending their children's and grandchildren's school and sports activities.  Karon preceded him in death in 2020.

He will be forever remembered by his children Amy (Thomas) Marciniak of Beaverton, Scott (Christine) Nietzke of Bay City, and William (Stephanie) Nietzke of Freeland; grandchildren Tyler (Nicole) Marciniak of Allendale, Taylor (Ian Podsiadlik) Marciniak of Auburn, Carys Nietzke of Bay City and Mia Nietzke of Freeland; dear friend Janice Holland of Sebewaing; and many more extended family and friends.

Visitation for Allan Nietzke is planned for Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from 2 pm to 8 pm at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home, 538 Beck Street, Sebewaing, Michigan.  Funeral services will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 800 E. Bay Street, Sebewaing, Thursday August 5, 2021.  Visitation at the church will begin at 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.   Burial will be private with just the immediate family at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Sebewaing.
