Allen Dicks

Allen Reed Dicks, age 60, of Caro, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at St. Marys of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born on December 28, 1950 at Cass City to Margaret Ann (Sharp) and the late Alexander (Britt) Dicks. With the exception of service with the U.S. Army in Germany, Allen was a lifelong resident of Caro. He was a 1968 graduate of Caro High School, and went to work at the Caro Regional Center prior to entering the service. Upon his return to his civilian job, he was an attendant nurse until his retirement in 2001, and one of the first presidents of AFSME. He was a life member of the Tuscola County Archery Club, the Caro Moose Lodge #1049, Theron Atwood American Legion Post #7, Ducks Unlimited, N.R.A., and a lifetime member of the North American Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photography and was an avid Michigan athletics fan. He is survived by his daughter, Ann (Shane) Westover of Caro; one grandson, Pvt. James P. Scott, a Ranger with the U.S. Army in Savannah, Georgia; his mother, Margaret Ann Dicks of Caro; his siblings, Mary and Gordon Taggett of Caro, Britton and Rose Dicks of Caro, Carol and Don Hartman of Clio, Samuel Dicks of Caro, Lerry and Tammy Dicks of Caro, Terry Dicks and Robin Spencer of Caro, Kelly & Mark Titus of Cass City, James Dicks of Caro, Robert and Thelma Dicks of Caro; two aunts, Leola Dicks of Marlette and Thelma Dicks of Louisiana; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his uncles and one aunt. The memorial service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Chris Taylor officiating. The service will be followed by military honors afforded by Theron Atwood American Legion Post #7 and the United States Army. Burial will be at Almer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W.
