Allen Duane Thorp

Allen Duane Thorp of Mayville, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born May 25, 1942 in Caro, the son of the late Duane and Mary (Hawley) Thorp. On a fateful blind date, Allen met the former Marilyn McLeish and the couple later united in marriage on November 6, 1965, at the Imlay City Church of the Nazarene. Together they raised three children, celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage, and built countless cherished memories. Allen was employed for over thirty years as a Nursing Supervisor at the Lapeer State Home and Training School until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking; demonstrating his craftsmanship by building and remodeling every home the family ever lived in. Allen was a dedicated member of the Caro Assembly of God Church.

Allen is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Marilyn; three children and their spouses, Machelle Garman of Lapeer, Laura & Dalton Pringle of Lapeer, and Allen II & Cassi Thorp of Lapeer; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and seven brothers and sisters. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Andrew Garman; a grandson, Brian Garman; and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. David Dietzel officiating. Burial will follow at Fremont Township Cemetery in Mayville. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Caro Assembly of God Church.
