Alma Fluegge Stahl, 97, of Bay Port, died peacefully Friday, August 18, 2017 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon.

Alma was born April 13, 1920 in Elkton to the late Ernst and Frieda (Rathje) Fluegge. She married James E. Stahl in August 1938; he preceded her in death March 17, 1963.

Alma grew up on the farm and attended St. John’s Ev. Lutheran School-Berne. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1938. Her home was a place of activity, hospitality and love as she enjoyed all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as friends and neighbors. She was employed by the Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Lakers Schools as a secretary at Bay Port Elementary School. Her later years showed her pride and determination as she attended all family events. She was a devoted member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne. She was a member of St. John’s Women’s Society, Caseville Retirement Club, Bay Port Historical Society, Red Hatters, Bay Port Women’s Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was always ready for a game of cards at the drop of an invitation.

She is survived by her children Patricia Sluke of Caseville, James (Sharon) Stahl of Caseville and Cathy (Charles) Esch of Elkton; grandchildren Rev. Gregory Sluke, Michael Stahl, Andrea Williams, Michelle Ausdemore, Gina Heilig, Thomas McGee, Holly Smith, Patrick McGee, Julie Esch, Erik Esch; great-grandchildren Joseph Williams, Lindsey Chesbro, Jacob Williams, Nathan Schulz, Ryan Schulz, Gabrielle Stahl, Samantha Stahl, Matthew McGee, Mackenzie Stahl, Chaston Hale, Dominick Smith, Brady McGee, Hannah Hale, Jaylee McGee, Lauren Heilig, Tori Heilig, Kelli Williams, Jake Ausdemore, Chloe Esch, Gavin Esch and Logan Esch; great-Great-grandson Troy Schulz; sisters-in-law Vida Fluegge and Edna Dutcher; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James, daughter Diana McGee, brother Herbert Fluegge and sisters Leona Peppel Ballman and Donna Molinaro; and son-in-law Eugene Sluke.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 22nd at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne with Rev. Steven Neuman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-7 Monday at 7436 Paul Street, Pigeon and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in church. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
