Alphonse F. Vander Meulen

Alphonse F. Vander Meulen age 75, passed away suddenly Friday, November 23, 2012 at his home in Caseville after a sudden heart attack.

He was born January 27 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Alphonse and Cecilia (Cole) Vander Meulen. Al grew up in Detroit and attended De La Salle Collegiate High School where he graduated in 1955.
On June 22nd 1957, he was united in marriage to Joanne E. Conners at St. Anne Catholic Church in Warren.

Al was employed by the Detroit Police Department for 26 years, after which he worked at Children’s Hospital, Detroit, in security. Upon retirement in 2000 Al and Joanne moved to Caseville, where he had spent many childhood summers with his father.

He was a member of St Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. He was especially fond of spending time with his children and grandchildren who visited often. Al truly enjoyed the family cabin in the U.P. where he, his sons and grandsons would partake in many hunting adventures. He also loved watching football having played his 4 years at De LaSalle as well as 2 years at Michigan State University.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Joanne; four children, Anna (Tony) Curtis, of Sterling Heights, Ronald (Terri) Vander Meulen of Lake Orion, Mark Vander Meulen of Sebewaing and Joseph Vander Meulen of Lapeer; seven grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Thomas (Kate), Mark Jr, Justin, Lucas and Matthew and four cousins.
Preceding him in death was one son, Thomas Vander Meulen.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 Tuesday, November 27, at St Roch Catholic Church in Caseville with Rev. Robert Pare presiding. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM, Monday at Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville and after 10 AM on Tuesday at the church. Rosary service will take place Monday at 7 PM.
Memorial gifts may be given to St Roch Catholic Church.
