Andrew William Lakatos, 96, of Caseville, formerly of Westland, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his home.

Andy was born March 9, 1920 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania to the late William and Julianna (Borso) Lakatos. Andy grew up in River Rouge and in 1938 he graduated as class president of Our Lady of Lourdes High School and then attended Detroit Business Institute. On July 19, 1941 he married Bernice “Billie” Ford; she preceded him in death July 12, 1996. He served in the US Army during World War II in Europe.

Andy retired as an agent from The Prudential Insurance Company in 1977 after a 35 year career. Having purchased property in Huron Dunes in 1955, he moved there permanently upon retirement. In 2012 he moved to his current home on Champagne Road. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Caseville American Legion, Caseville Eagles Club, Caseville Retirement Club, Kinde Seniors, Huron County Council on Aging, Tri-County Senior Advisory Council, HDC of Caro and TRIAD of Bad Axe.

He is survived by his sons Andrew II (Darlene) of Whitmore Lake, William (Caryn) of Florida and Paul (Christine) of Canton; daughter-in-law Tamara of Garden City; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and his dearest friend of many years Elizabeth Adkins of Caseville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son Thomas.

A funeral mass will be at 10:00am Saturday, March 4th at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Pare presiding. Military honors will be presented by the Caseville American Legion.

Visitation will be 2-6 Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. He will lie in-state one hour prior to mass on Saturday in church.

Memorials may be made to the Caseville American Legion.
