Anna Ignatowski

Anna Ignatowski, 93, of Caseville, died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Home Sweet Home in Pigeon while under hospice care.

Anna was born December 9, 1915 in Cairnbrook, Pennsylvania to the late George and Mary (Lempley) Sapulich. On June 18, 1955 she married William Andrew Ignatowski in Detroit. William preceded her in death on July 19, 2003.

During the 1930's and early 1940's Anna worked as nanny and housekeeper for Dr. Wright who was the team physician for the Detroit Tigers. She traveled around the country with Dr. Wright following the Tigers from city to city. During World War II, Anna became a “Rosie the Riveter,” taking a factory job, freeing up men for the service. Having vacationed in Caseville for many years, Anna moved there permanently in 1978. Anna enjoyed fishing, cooking, baking, crocheting, and drinking coffee with her friends and family, especially her daughter. She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.

Surviving are her son Richard (Pam) Ignatowski of Caseville and daughter Cheryl (Mike) Shank of West Virginia; grandchildren Derek Ignatowski and Anna and Emily Shank; brothers George and Michael Sapulich; nieces and nephews Joann (Norm) Samborski, Joe (Karen) Ignatowski and Frantz (Chris) Herko.

She was preceded in death by her brother John and sister Sue Herko.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday, July 13th at St. Francis Catholic Church, Pigeon, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-8PM Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Sunday.
