Anna Sobek

Anna Marie Sobek, age 85 years, of Caro passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at St. Marys of Michigan in Saginaw. She was born on September 23, 1925 in Pittsfield, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Apolonia (Wegierski) Gusek. She and her family came to the family farm on Underwood Rd. Anna was a Caro High School graduate in later life, but she had moved to Detroit as a young women and attended beauty school. She worked as a long distance telephone operator, and met Joseph John Sobek at the Polish Dance Club in Detroit. On July 9, 1949 they were married in Detroit and went to Florida where Joe was serving in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning to the Detroit area, she worked at J.L. Hudson in the Eastland Mall, Harper Woods. Upon their retirement, they returned to her family farm where they have resided since. She was a member of the Altar Society at Our Lady of Good Counsel while in Detroit and currently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Anna also had served as a den mother in cub scouts, a member of the V.F.W. and Knights of Columbus auxiliaries. She enjoyed crafts, cooking, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and embroidery. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; four children, Liz (Tom) Holcomb of Montrose, Colorado, Joseph P. (Ninik) Sobek of Trabuco Canyon, California, Michael (Lori) Sobek of Clinton Township, and Susan (Richard) Keehn of Alexandria, Virginia; six grandchildren, Richard Holcomb, Jade Sobek, Katie Sobek, Rachel Sobek, Nicholas Sobek, and Trevor Keehn; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings and their spouses, Rose and Stephen Bednarski, Angeline Gusek, Louis and Helen Gusek, and Stanley Gusek. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Caro V.F.W. Auxiliary.
