Anthony John Scepanski

June 11, 1920 — December 2, 2011

Anthony John Scepanski, 91, of Caseville, died Friday, December 2, 2011 in Florida while under hospice care.

Tony was born June 11, 1920 in Caseville to the late John and Nancy Scepanski. He was united in marriage to Levena Landreu in 1940 in Detroit. She preceded him in death in 1987.

Tony was born on a farm in Caseville where the Hairum is now located. He moved to Detroit at the age of 15 and went to work for Walsh Sheet Metal as a foreman. In 1945 he transferred to the Caseville plant. Shortly thereafter he began his own business, Caseville Plumbing and Heating, working with his brother Frank. Together they put a lot of the first indoor plumbing in homes in Caseville.

He was a member and past president of The Master Plumbers Assoication. An active member of St. Roch Catholic Church where he was an usher and worked diligently over the years, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Elks, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Scenic and Caseville Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing up until his 90th birthday. He won many championships in golf and bowling. While bowling on Biff’s bowling league he and his teammates dropped out stating they wanted to give the other teams a chance to win. He was an avid gardener with a green thumb; during his retirement you could either find him in his garden or on the golf course. He could hit a ball farther than most. Due to his failing eye sight, his golf buddies would have to watch the ball for him, true friends. Not to be forgotten, Walt’s Restaurant and the special treatment he always got there, thanks Ruth Ann. The past many years he enjoyed spending winters in Homosassa, Florida.

He is survived by his daughters Nancy (Frank) Willenberg of Arkansas, Shirley Palugyay of Royal Oak, Beverly (John) Dubey of Caseville and son Jack (Laura) of Florida; brother Frank of Caseville; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Levena; grandsons Tony and Ricky Dubey; great-grandchildren Jonathan and Erika Willenberg and Nathan Nyaga; sisters Ann Kincel, Mary Dove, Lillian Carmandy and Julie Wyman.

A Mass of Resurrection will be at 11:00am Tuesday, December 13th at St. Roch Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Roch Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Caseville Eagles.

Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of the mass at church.

We’re very proud of our father, our grandfather, such an honest man, someone to look up to. Know you will be missed and loved always.

Memorials may be made to the St. Roch Building Fund.
