Armond J. Herford, age 87, of Elkton, died Thursday evening, October 26, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon.
He was born September 29, 1919 at the home of his parents, the late Daniel and Clara (Gallman) Herford in Chandler Twp.
On June 6, 1942, he was united in marriage to Isabelle Schweitzer at her parent’s home in Sebewaing.
Armond farmed all his life, first with his father, than taking over the family farm in Chandler Twp., retiring in 1985.
They loved to travel and was proud of the fact he visited almost every state in the country plus many countries abroad. They wintered for many years in mid-Florida area. Armond loved to visit with family and friends, he enjoyed hunting both deer and pheasant, and listening to gospel music. He was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, Shady Lane Farm Bureau, Elkton Historical Society and the Pigeon Men’s Community Chores.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Isabelle; five children, Noreen Bennett of Sand Point, Nola (Cal) Kauffman of Elkton, Neil (Connie) Herford of Elkton, Arlin (Sue) Herford of Elkton and Nan (Keith) Stalter of Bay Port; a special nephew, Richard (Mary) Schweitzer of Baltimore, MA; twelve grandchildren, Amy, Carleen, Angie, Jody, Dan, Steve, Travis, Grant, Cristina, Ryan, Scott and Lisa; thirteen great grandchildren, Corey, Zach, Taylor, Ben, Cooper, Mallory, Sloan, Will Turner, Owen, Connor, Audrey and Ellie and many other nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was an infant daughter, Nancy Lou; his sister, Beulah Motz Schlabach and a grandson Chad.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, October 30, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. David Collins, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 9 PM Sunday and at the church after 10:00 AM Monday.
Memorials may be given to Bay Shore Camp.
