Barbara Jean Eichenberger, age 86, of Caro passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Satchells Christian Retirement Home in Caro. She was born on January 29, 1924 in Titusville, Pennsylvania to the late Eugene and Lillian (Haynes) Mangel. Along with her family, she moved as a child to Detroit and graduated from Pershing High School. Barbara attended business school and entered the business world; first as a stewardess with TWA, and then to WJR, where she was a receptionist. She was lured to Ford Motor Company where she became one of the “Ford Girls” and was the image person for people going to the Golden Towers in the Penobscot Building. During WWII, she was lauded for selling the most War Bonds at Ford Motor Company. The former Barbara Mangel married Weldon Eichenberger in 1971, and he preceded her in death in the early 1980s. After caring for her mother for over fifty years, she moved from Plymouth to Caro in 2005 to be near family. Barbara was a member of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed shopping and going out to eat. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Mangel of Mission, Texas; nephew, Mark (Lezley) Mangel of Cass City; two nieces, Mary (Tom) Crandall of Brazilia, Brazil, and Carol Bennett and Mark Sapp of Apopka, Florida; several great- and great-great-nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Paul Mangel. There will be a Chapel service at St. Catherines Catholic Cemetery in Titusville, Pennsylvania on Monday, February 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. There will be no visitation at the Collon Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to American Home Care and Hospice.
