Barbara Kirk Gamache of Flint, age 93, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at her home, with her family by her side. Barbara was born on May 2, 1930 in Flint, the daughter of the late Shuford and Bernice (Braun) Kirk. She graduated from Caro High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. In 1954, Barbara married Richard Gamache. Their marriage was blessed with thirty-six years, four children, and countless memories. Sadly, Richard passed away on July 29, 1990. Barbara was active in many community volunteer groups and master gardening throughout her life. She loved to garden, play bridge, and spend time with her family and friends. Barbara’s love and devotion will be missed for years to come.


Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Nancy (James) Higgins, James (Shawn) Gamache, Michael (Jennifer) Gamache, and Elizabeth (Charles) MacLean; grandchildren, Emilie, Kirk, Anne, Matthew, Nicholas, and Connor; great-granddaughters, Madelynne and Eleanor; special caretaker & beloved friend, Kathy Cole. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Thornburgh.


In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will be held at Indianfields Twp. Cemetery in Caro. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kathy Cole for her exceptional care, compassion, and friendship she gave Barbara.
