Barbara Jean Krohn, 85, of Elkton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the home of her daughter Carolyn, in Livonia, to be with her Lord.
Barbara was born April 9, 1935 in Huron Township to the late John and Mary (Kirkpatrick) McGeachy. She graduated from Bad Axe High School and went on to receive her nursing degree from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit. She married Bruce Krohn on November 1, 1958 at the Elkton United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on October 28, 2001. Barbara pursued her career in nursing for several decades in and around the Thumb and supported her husband's farming career, pitching in to do whatever needed to be done.
Barbara was an active community volunteer in multiple areas. She was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, a charter member of Club 59 of Elkton, Aim High Farm Bureau, Farm Bureau Women, Bay Shore Camp Auxiliary, Huron Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Huron County Sheriff's Victim Support and Hospice/Grief Support Group. She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting and traveling with her many friends, gardening, reading her daily devotionals and coffee. Before moving in with her daughter, Barbara had resided at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Pigeon for several years and always appreciated the kind and caring attention of the staff and friendship of the residents. She also appreciated her special caregiver, Cheyanne O'Neil, who made her days bright during her hospice journey.
Barbara is survived by her son Curtis Krohn and his wife Cindy (Hanson) Krohn of Las Vegas and daughter Carolyn (Price) Shaffer and her husband Ervin Shaffer of Livonia; grandchildren Christopher (Julie) Hanson, Casey Krohn, Amanda (Stephen) Lund, Caitlin (Kevin) O'Brien, Kyle Price (Emily Friedrichs) and Natalie (Aaron) Kimler: great-grandchildren Alaina and Ethan Hanson, Hope, Gabriel and Faith Lund; brother-in-law Dr. Richard Hall and sisters-in-law Yvonne McGeachy and Hilda McGeachy. She was preceded in death by her brothers Claude McGeachy and Duane McGeachy; son-in-law Col. Mark Price; and in-laws Roy and Louise Krohn, Ronald and Donna Krohn, Kenneth Krohn and Marjorie Hall.
Private funeral services will be held at Elkton United Methodist Church with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-4 Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon. Memorials in Barbara's memory can be directed to Elkton United Methodist Church, Bay Shore Camp or Arbor Hospice.
