Barbara Jean Walker of Caro, formerly of Vassar, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at home, surrounded by the love of her family. Barbara was born September 12, 1942 in Flint, the daughter of the late Paul Raymond & Alice Elizabeth Bishop. She graduated from Flint Central High School with the class of 1960 and worked as a secretary for several years before taking a position in the accounting department at Yankee Department Store in Flint. It was there that a young man caught her eye from across the store and as the story goes, she knew immediately that she was destined to marry him. Six months later, on October 24, 1964, she was proven right and was united in marriage with David C. Walker in Flint. The couple celebrated fifty-five years together before David's death on January 22, 2020. In 1977, Barbara and David moved their family to Vassar in search of a quieter life and she spent much of that time caring for her two young daughters. While there, she also became active in the Lions Club and was a member of the Willow Springs Golf League in Millington. Barbara's life was devoted to family and she cherished time spent with grandchildren and even shared a Girl Scouts leader position with her daughter to spend extra time with them. More recently, she enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren grow and develop their own unique personalities. Her spare time was often spent reading and crocheting, as well as golfing in her earlier years. Left to cherish Barbara's memory are two daughters, Kerri Walker and Tony Szcygiel of Caro, Traci & Todd Nelson of Vassar; twelve grandchildren, Benjamin Tenney, Philip & Melissa Szcygiel, David & Nicole Tenney, Kristin Walker and Scott Glenn, Nicolette & Jason Scheffler, Zachary Nelson, Zachary David, Emilee Nelson, Annalise Nelson, Matthew Peplinski, Anthony Walker; nine great-grandchildren, Kario, David, Colton, Nathaniel, Claire, Charlotte, Layla, Maddison, Hunter; brother, Thomas Bishop; and many nieces and nephews that knew her lovingly as Aunt Bobbie. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by an infant sister; and two brothers, James and Paul Bishop.
