Barbara Wood

Barbara Wood of Caro, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Barb was born April 14, 1939 in Ohio, Illinois, the daughter of the late Donald and Irma (Baumgartner) Brewer. She came to Battle Creek as a child and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School before attending Hillsdale College. Barb worked at a variety of secretarial jobs prior to becoming a homemaker. She was united in marriage with Wendell Wood on August 13, 1960 in Battle Creek. The Wood family moved to Caro in 1964, and Barb devoted herself wholly to her family along with the neighborhood children. She was a devoted member of the Caro First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, and a member of the Caro Arts Society. Barb enjoyed gardening, crafts, knitting, sewing, ceramics and collecting bells. Barb is survived by her loving husband of fifty-six years, Wendell Wood of Caro; three daughters and their spouses, Wendy & Mark Bales of Caro, Julie & Duke Barrows of Columbia, Missouri, Sherry Wood of Caro; five grandchildren, Riann Bertrand, Amanda & Michael McGee, Kaitlyn Bertrand, Jackie Barrows and Cody Barrows; one great-grandchild, Mason McGee; twin siblings and their spouses, Donnie & Jeannie Brewer of Longmont, Colorado, and Nancy & James Vaden of Ashland, Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one aunt, Margie Baumgartner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Caro First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Burial will follow at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro.
