Bernard M. Buchalski

July 31, 1921 — October 10, 2002

Bernard M. Buchalski age 81, of Lake Twp. near Caseville died Thursday morning, October 10, of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
He was born July 31, 1921 in Detroit to the late Michael and Theresa (Pietras) Buchalski.
On November 7, 1942, he was united in marriage to Jennie M. Krjewska at Resurrection Catholic Church, Detroit.
In December of 1942, Bernie was inducted in to the US Army. He served in the South Pacific during WW II and received a Purple Heart for being wounded in battle. In 1947, he became a Detroit Police officer and retired in 1981, as a detective, with 34 years of service.
He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, Knights of Columbus # 8042, VFW Post #1278, Detroit, Lieutenant and Sergeants Assn. Detroit, Detroit Police and Fire Assn. Past President of the PRCUA St. Joseph Society #261, Detroit and past Bingo chairman and trustee of the Caseville Eagles Aerie # 3690. Bernie enjoyed fishing, play cards and bingo.
Surviving are his wife of almost sixty years, Jennie; six children, Ron of Philadelphia, Bob (Gail) of Detroit, Jim (Debbie) and Theresa both of Sterling Heights, Gerry of Southfield and Bernadette (Rod) Bechtel of Elkgrove, CA; seven grand children and his sister, Regina Rogos of Troy. Preceding him in death were twin sons, Joseph and Gerard and two brothers, Ted and Florian.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville from 2 to 9 PM on Sunday where and Eagles ritual will be conducted 6:30 PM and a K of C rosary at 7:00 PM. He will be in state at the Wasik Funeral Home in Warren on Monday from 2 to 9 PM. A funeral mass will be conducted 10:00 AM Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church Lantz Rd. 1 blk E. of Van Dyke in Detroit, with burial in St. Roch Cemetery, Caseville. Memorials to The Capachin Soup Kitchen or St Rita School for the Deaf, 1720 Glendale-Milford Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45217-9983.
