Bernard Kapala, age 86, of Caseville, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw after a short illness.
Bernard was born March 24, 1923 in Roger City to the late Peter and Agnes (Durecki). He served in the European theater of the US Army during World War II. He married Clara Agnes Whitney on June 28, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Tawas.
In 1983 he retired from US Graphite in Saginaw where he had worked for 37 years. He moved to Caseville in 1994. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and the West Huron Centennial Knights of Columbus #8042. He enjoyed his home, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years Clara; children Sharon (David) Geiersbach of Wheeler, David (Pam) of Shelby Twp., Timothy (Maryln) of Mt. Morris, and Gary (Karen) of Millington; grandchildren Amy, Tanya, Michael, Angela, Jennifer, Stephen and Matthew; great-grandchildren Gavin and Whitney; and his brother James Kapala of Saginaw.
He was preceded by his sister Theresa Partyke and brother Clarence Kapala.
A funeral mass will be at 9:00 am Saturday, November 28th at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Kenneth Yaroch presiding. Military honors will be presented by the Caseville American Legion. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw.
Visitation will be 2-8 pm Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. There will be a Scripture service at 7:00 pm Friday followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary.
