Bernard F. King, 85, of Pigeon, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
Bernie was born December 8, 1932 on the family farm near Owendale to the late William and Anna Gladys (Weiler) King. He graduated from Owendale High School in 1951. He married Norma E. Schreiber on January 3, 1953 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown.
In his early years he farmed, then he worked for 20 years at Shell Stations in Pigeon and Owendale. He retired from Wallace Stone Quarry as a loader operator. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church/OLPH Parish where he had been involved as an usher and with the Men’s Club. He was a former member at the Sportsman’s club, former chief and 20 year member of the Winsor Twp Fire Department, and formerly active in the Pigeon Little League program.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Norma; children Ann of Cass City; Pat (Denise) of Pigeon, Pamela (Tom) Stafford of Pigeon, Laurie (Tom) Rathje of Pigeon and David (Kelly) of Gaylord; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and his sister Eva Goslin of Sebewaing. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters: Art, Erma, Madeline, Rita, Marian, Harold, Edward, Ronald, Donald and John.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00am Wednesday, February 14 th at St. Francis Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Pare presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.
Memorials may be made to the Winsor Township Fire Department.
