Bernard Anthony Niester

Bernard Anthony Niester, age 81, of Owendale, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at his home.

Bernard was born April 21, 1940, in Detroit, to Conrad Anthony Niester, an immigrant from Wildehausen, Germany and Elizabeth (Enderle) Niester of Bach, Michigan. He is a 1958 graduate of Owendale-Gagetown High School. After high school, he established a farm in Owendale, Michigan, raising dairy cows for thirty years and then crop farming for thirty years with the help of his wife, Nancy. He married Nancy Fritz on July 14, 1973 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Bach.

Bernard loved all sports and excelled at football, basketball and baseball in high school. As an adult he enjoyed playing in bowling and softball leagues. His favorite sport to watch was Detroit Tigers baseball. Outside of sports, his main devotion was to his family. Bernard was best known as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He expressed his love through actions, never failing to help or support those who needed him.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Nancy; his two children: Brad (Janie) Niester of Oakland Township and Jennifer (Kevin) Niester-Mika of Freeland; his five grandchildren: Cassidy Niester, Carson Niester, Carly Niester, Tucker Mika, and Quinn Mika; his siblings: Conrad (Bea) Niester of Fenton, Jeanette Hinkle of Orlando, Florida, and Norma D'Angelo of Davisdon, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Elizabeth Niester; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Eva Fritz; his sister, Dorothy McCeachin; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Diane and Leroy Schember.

The funeral service will be private.

Memorials may be given to Our Lady Consolata Cemetery Fund or Building Fund.
