Bernard I. Wilson of Caro, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw. Bernie was born August 25, 1927 in Gagetown, the son of the late Ira & Honor (McLeod) Wilson. He was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1946. Bernie was drafted to the U.S. Army, serving in Korea from 1950 until 1952, where he earned the Bronze Star with Valor for meritorious service in a combat zone. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the service, Bernie was united in marriage with the former Jacqueline J. Phelps on November 17, 1952 and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2012. As a young man, Bernie spent several years working with his father as a plasterer and his father-in-law as a bookkeeper at Metcalf & Schrader in Caro. For over twenty-five years, Bernie served people across the Thumb in realty, eventually becoming a broker and owner of B. I. Wilson Real Estate in Caro. In his spare time, Bernie enjoyed oil painting, camping, and spending quiet afternoons with Jackie watching the boats come into Port Huron. He leaves behind countless friends and neighbors who will now carry on the Philosophical Teachings of Bernie. His friendly demeanor and gentle spirit will be missed by many. Bernie is survived by two children and their spouses, Carla & James Hickie of Saginaw Township, Brian & Karmen Wilson of Caro; five grandchildren and their spouses, Veronica Guigar of Caseville, Melissa Hickie of Saginaw Township, Michelle Wilson of Port Huron, Brian, Jr. & Misty Wilson of Holly, Brandon & Candice Wilson of Lapeer; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Frieda Wilson of Caro; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Bernie was preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice Allen. In keeping with Bernie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A private family service and military honors will be held at a later time with burial at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center at 1500 Weiss Street, Saginaw MI, 48602. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional care Bernie received at Vadavilla of Unionville and the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center.
