Bert Linabury, age 74, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Administration Hospital in Saginaw. He was born November 15, 1937 in Jackson, the son of the late John and Gladys (Sechler) Linabury. He attended school in Jackson and joined the National Guard as a youth and then the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Kermit Roosevelt ARG 16 during the Korean War from 1954 to 1957. On February 9, 1963, Bert was united in marriage with Joyce Dunham in Jackson. Later in life, he rejoined the U.S. Navy Reserve. Bert was a mechanic and worked in auto dealerships in a number of cities. Most recently, he worked as a grinder at Saginaw Steering Gear Plant 2. He was a very active member of the Novesta Church of Christ for twenty years where he served as a deacon and chaired the building committee. He was a current member of the First Baptist Church of Caro, the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164, and the Christian Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, wood working, and being a jack of all trades. Surviving Bert is his wife of forty-eight years, Joyce; two sons, Bert J. Linabury of Caro and Thomas Lee (Karen) Linabury of Bay City; three brothers, Jack (Joiene) Linabury, Phillip (Sandy) Linabury, and Gary (Gloria) Linabury, all of Jackson; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Linabury. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Caro with Pastor Ronald Wigand officiating. Burial will follow with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post #4164 and the U.S. Navy at the Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.
