Bertha C. Mcaulay

Bertha C. McAulay, age 93, passed away January 15, 2017 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care, Pigeon.

She was born in Caseville on November 25, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Liska) Valkoun, and graduated from Pigeon High School in 1941. On March 28, 1942, Bertha married Kenneth S. McAulay at Fort Wayne, Indiana. They were married for 72 years.

Bertha was a long time active member and officer of the General Federation of Women's Clubs - Pigeon Worthwhile Club. She attended many local, state and federal conventions. She also was a Scout leader in Pigeon for many years. In January of 1970 she received a Diploma from LaSalle Extension University in Interior Decorating. She owned and operated Bertha McAulay Drapery and Interior Design. After 20 years she retired from the business that she was very proud of. She was also a member of the Caseville United Methodist Church.

Bertha is survived by a son, John of Pigeon; two daughters, Ann (Crawford) Kennedy of Pigeon and Jill (Lonnie) Hedley of Elkton; grandchildren, Kristin Hedley (Mike Prosowski) of Elkton and Lonnie K. Hedley of Roseville. She is also survived by three step grandchildren, Andrew (Deb) Kennedy of Santa Monica, CA, Robert (Mary Pat) Kennedy of Saginaw, and Glen (Roxanne) Kennedy of San Pedro, CA; eight step great-grandchildren: Paul (Jennifer), Mary Grace, Sean, Elizabeth, Maclaine, Jackson, Scout and Emmett; and two step great great-grandchildren, Lilly and Liam. She is also survived by two sisters, Maxine Thompson and Dianne (John) Kohr; and brother-in-law Bob Huber.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Helen, Eileen, and Leida; and brother James.

For many years, Bertha was able to stay at home because of three very special caregivers, Trent Morrison, Diane Fischer and Karen Hessling. The family extends to them their fullest appreciation.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Rev. Linda Fuller, pastor of Caseville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Caseville Township Cemetery.

Memorials for Bertha may be made to Scheurer Hospital or donor's choice.
