Bertha Bernice Schmitz

Bertha "Bea" Schmitz, 94, of Caseville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at her home.  Bea was born on February 8, 1929 in the tiny town of Smiths Creek, Michigan. She was the daughter of John and Aniela Wojcik Oles, one of nine children, six brothers and two sisters.

On January 12, 1952 Bea married Harold N. Schmitz, the love of her life. After a lengthy illness, Harold preceded her in death on November 7, 2017. She is also preceded in death by all her siblings, and her son-in-law, Dennis Monette.

Bea is survived by her four children and their families.  Debra and Dennis Rank, Gary and Joy (Delor) Schmitz, Sandy (the late Dennis) Monette, Lori and Kevin McCoy. She leaves behind twelve grandchildren and a whole gaggle of great grandchildren. Also survived by her two sister-in-law, Noreen Schmitz (Robert) Prior and Judie Schmitz.

A special “Thank-You” goes out to all Bea’s friends and neighbors on Notre Dame who were ALWAYS looking out for her at all times, especially when she was working in her yard.

A memorial service will be at 6:00pm Thursday, September 14 at the Champagne Funeral Chapel with Rev. Karen Bouverette officiating.  Visitation will begin at 2:00pm and continue until the time of the service.
