Berthina Hoy, 91, a lifelong Caseville resident, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at her home while under hospice care.
Berthina was born February 22, 1921 in Caseville to the late Claude and Berthina (Langley) Dufty. She graduated from Pigeon High School in 1939. On May 17, 1944 she married Jesse Hoy at her parent’s home in Caseville. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1998.
Together with her husband, she owned and operated Saginaw Bay Marnia from 1959 until 1988. The business, now known as Hoy’s Saginaw Bay Marina is now in its third generation of family ownership. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Caseville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with family, especially lunches with her daughters.
She is survived by her four daughters Dianna Groff of Bay Port, Kay Cain of Caseville, Judy (Alexander) Munroe of Minooka, Illinois, and Mary (Jeff) Jacobi of Oxford; grandchildren Kathy (Dave) Lecznar, Peter Groff, Jeremy (Holly) Jensen, Jamie Jensen, Ryan Moore, Pat (Mary Rose) Jacobi, Tim (Aimee) Jacobi and Amy (Chad Thelen) Jacobi; great grandchildren Adam, Brandon, Fallon, Jaden, Jesse and Parker; and her sister Wanda Mae Farmer of Caseville.
She was preceded in death by her brother Walter Lawrence Dufty and son-in-law Howard Cain.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday, August 3rd at the Caseville United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 7 pm Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.
Pall bearers will be Peter Groff, Jeremy Jensen, Ryan Moore, Pat Jacobi, Tim Jacobi and Adam Lecznar.
Memorials may be made to the Caseville United Methodist Church or the Caseville School Boosters.
