Bessie L. Champagne age 79, of Elkton died Tuesday morning, April 1, at Huron County Medical Care Facility, with her family at her bedside.
She was born July 24, 1934, at the home of her parents the late David and Ann (Heck) Thompson.
On February 16, 1952, she was united in marriage to James E. Champagne at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. They lived on a farm in Lake Twp. until 1967, when they moved to their home Elkton.
Bessie was employed at Hamel Manufacturing for over 20 years, retiring in 1986. In her retirement, she worked at the Elkton Coop for a time and then at Tom Thumb Market.
She was a lifelong member of St. Felix Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving are her husband, Jim; five children, Debra (Dan) Watterworth of Lapeer, Floyd (Tracey) Champagne of Grand Rapids, Shelia Polega of Pinnebog, Mike Champagne of Fort Worth, TX and Mary (Chuck) Schuette of Grand Twp; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and her sister, Ruth Gilbert of Grant Twp.
Preceding her in death were five brothers, Raymond, Irvin, Robert, Lawrence and Henry Thompson and two sisters, Mary Hazard and Zelma Bauer.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, April 4 at St. Roch Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Robert Pare’, pastor will officiate with burial in St. Felix Catholic Cemetery, Pinnebog.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 9 PM Thursday and at St. Roch after 10 AM Friday.
