Betty Frances Bills of Akron, age 84, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Brian's House in Essexville, following a prolonged battle with cancer. Betty was born November 8, 1936 in Bay City, the daughter of the late Orville and Margaret (Molnar) Cragg and was a 1954 graduate of Fairgrove High School. Betty had a strong work ethic and following her graduation, she sought employment and subsequently worked at Morley Brothers, Wickes Corporation, and eventually, Akron-Fairgrove Schools. She continued to work at the school until retirement at the age of seventy-seven years. Betty resided in the Fairgrove and Akron area all her life. She married Lyle "Chips" Bills on October 3, 1970 and he preceded her in death in May of 2005. During their married years, Betty and Chips traveled to several states and national parks. In addition, they spent many happy times at their cottage in the Upper Peninsula. Betty was a member of the Fairgrove United Methodist Church from early childhood until her death. During those years, she served as the bookkeeper for fifty plus years, as well as participating on various committees. Betty enjoyed meeting people and spending time with her family. Her hobbies included walking, bicycling, reading, quilting and embroidery. Betty is survived by one brother, William Cragg (Marilyn Collon); one sister, Rose Strunz; and three sisters-in-law, Rosalie Cragg, Iola Cragg and Lorna Aulbert. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Cragg in 2017 and Robert Cragg in 2004. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Fairgrove United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Butler officiating.
