Betty Calley

Betty Calley of Caro, age 90, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Carey's Young at Heart AFC Home in Caro. Betty was born January 21, 1929 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Rollie Edward & Clara (Lee) Reed. She grew up in Detroit and was united in marriage with Royal Calley on October 4, 1958 in Dearborn Township. The couple celebrated fifty-four years together before Royal's death on January 22, 2012. Betty held a variety of jobs, first with Sears Roebuck and Company before joining Dearborn Heights Schools as a secretary. She also sold Tupperware for many years and eventually moved with Royal to Caro where she worked as a receptionist at the Caro Regional Center. Betty was a member of the Caro First Baptist Church and supported the Tuscola County Humane Society. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for family and friends, shopping, and volunteering during local elections. Betty will also be remembered for her social nature and keen eye for antiques. Left to cherish her memory are four children and their spouses, Royal, Jr. & Marilyn Calley of Brooklyn, Diane Manzo of Fenton, Doyle & Kathleen Calley of Lyons, Sally & Jack Thomas of Charlotte Hall, Maryland; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two children, Mary Helen Calley and James Andrew Calley; siblings, Edward, Shirley and Mary. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Caro First Baptist Church with Rev. Marc Herron officiating. Burial will follow at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:0 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro First Baptist Church.
