Betty Bernice Galka

Betty Galka of Caro, age 89, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw. Betty is survived by her daughter, Carol Agnew (son-in-law George Agnew), son, William Galka and granddaughter, Jade Galka, with numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country. Betty was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 27, 1933 to parents Thomas and Hazel Anderson as the youngest and only daughter among 5 brothers (Thomas, Loren, William, Eldred, and Albert) who all preceded her in death. After WWII, the Anderson family relocated from Missouri to the Dearborn area for employment opportunities in the automotive industry. Betty graduated from Lowrey High School in Dearborn, where she enjoyed synchronized swimming and excelled in developing business skills for shorthand, typing, and office organization. Betty spent the first portion of her adult life as a secretary for Ford Motor Company in the Detroit area before marrying Ed Galka in August of 1952. She then served as a church secretary for twenty-six consecutive years. Upon both their retirements, Betty and her husband Ed, who preceded her in death in 2010, relocated to Caro in 1995. Betty kept busy in her retirement years working as part time receptionist at her daughter's veterinary office, doing secretarial work at Living Waters Chapel, and volunteering as secretary for the Tuscola County Humane Society. Betty was a member of the Caro Assembly of God church and loved studying the Bible, especially end-time prophecy relating to current world events which was a topic of great interest to her. Betty loved God, her family circle that included many beloved animals, coffee, spoiling her grand dogs and cats, and was always willing to share her lifelong faith as encouragement to others. Her hobbies included reading, cooking, baking several varieties of Christmas cookies each holiday season, and sharing platters of cookies with friends and family. In her younger years, she enjoyed swimming, travel, and summertime family outings at Pontiac Lake. During the past two years, Betty was a resident at Heritage Hill assisted living facility in Caro. There she found a second home and extended family at Heritage where she composed and led weekly Bible studies, which was of great joy to her.
