Betty Gardner, age 53, of Elkton died Wednesday morning, March 27, at Scheurer Hospital following a long illness.
She was born August 18, 1948, in Pigeon to the late Herbert and Kathryn (Keatts) Beck.
Betty grew up in Pigeon and was a 1966 graduate of Laker High School. She worked in Cass City for a time until her marriage to Richard “Rick” Gardner. They were married at Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon, September 11, 1971. They made their home in Elkton, where she raised two sons and baby-sat for numerous other children from around town. After the children had grown, she worked as a waitress, first at the Lunch Bucket and later at Tiny’s on the west end of town. She also worked at the Big Wheel Store in Bad Axe for a while.
Betty enjoyed her life at home with her boys, she was very good with a needle and thread, making crafts and baskets and doing things around the house.
She was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, Club 59 and a charter member of the Elkton Jaycettes.
Surviving are her husband, Rick; two sons, Jason (Jodi) Gardner of Midland and Scott Gardner of Essexville and her granddaughter, Caleigh. Preceding her in death were a granddaughter, Mattie and her sister, Karen Walker.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, March 29, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Pete Crawford, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton tonight from 7 to 9 Thursday from 2 to 9 PM and at he church after 10 AM Friday.
Memorials may be given to the church.
