Betty J. Good, 91 of Gagetown, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015 at home with her family at her side.
Born in Casper, Wyoming on December 25, 1923, she was daughter to Dr. Gordon and Belma (Solseth) Dafoe. While in high school, Betty worked at Carl & Stella Errer's ice cream bar and restaurant. Following her 1942 graduation from Owendale High School, she worked in Detroit in the General Motors Building as a secretary. In 1945 Betty moved to Bad Axe and worked for Wright Insurance Agency. On April 2, 1949 she and Edmund Good were united in marriage at the Owendale Methodist Church. She then worked on the farm and served as deputy Township Clerk for 40 years. She also worked several years at Owen-Gage High School as a secretary in the Principal's office. She also attended Central Michigan University classes in Bad Axe for three years.
Many foreign students were guests in her home, and Betty traveled with her husband to many Lions Club conventions in the U.S. as well as foreign countries. She also traveled to Township conventions and Republican Party conventions. Betty was a Life Member of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.) and enjoyed golfing and theater with her girlfriends.
Betty was a member of the Owendale United Methodist Church. As a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for many years, and was active with the ladies society (UMW). Betty truly enjoyed spending holidays with family, her siblings, and in-laws.
She is survived by her husband, Edmund, with whom she had celebrated 66 years of marriage this year; daughters, Nancy (Newt) Eade of West Bloomfield and Becky (Dennis) Weiss of South Lyon; grandsons, Andrew Weiss, Adam Weiss, and Jason Wells; sister Margaret Cooper of New Lothrop; special niece, Jennifer Dafoe; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Tim; brothers, Robert Dafoe and twin brother Richard Wales; and sister Jean Martin.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Owendale United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bill Cleland and Rev. Lisa McIlvenna officiating. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Owendale Lions Club or Owendale United Methodist Church.
