Betty Ruth Harrington

Betty Ruth Harrington of Caro, age 93, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Covenant Health Care - Harrison in Saginaw, with her family at her side. Betty was born September 13, 1923 in Troy, the daughter of the late Jesse and Charlotte (McClellan) Bale. She was a 1941 graduate of Hillsdale High School, and on August 22, 1942, she was united in marriage with Robert P. Harrington at the First Methodist Church in Hillsdale by Rev. E. Lenten Sutcliffe. Robert preceded her in death in May of 2005. After moving to Tuscola County, Betty was employed as the secretary to the superintendent of the Akron-Fairgrove Schools, retiring in 1988. In addition to her work, she was a loving wife and mother and very active in community affairs; as a member or officer with the VFW Auxiliary, Hillsdale County Home Economics Extension Council, Zonta Club, Girls Club, Tuscola County Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, or the Caro Community Hospital Auxiliary. Betty is survived by her children, Richard (Sherrie) Harrington of Caro, Ronald (Beverly) Harrington of Kalkaska, Robert Harrington II of Hazelgreen, Alabama, Sharon Harrington and friend, Mary Briggeman, of Baroda, and Randall (Virginia) Harrington of Prattville, Alabama; eight grandchildren, several great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, brother, step-brother, daughter-in-law, and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Burton Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church or the donor's favorite charity.
