Betty L. Hecht of Caro, age 70, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, following a brief illness. She was born February 9, 1943 in Cass City, the daughter of the late William and Iva (Smith) Churchill. Betty was a 1961 graduate of Vassar High School, and had attended the Humboldt Academy for airline training. The former Betty Churchill and Kenneth H. Hecht were united in marriage on October 13, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sacramento, California, and the couple had just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Betty was employed with Western Airlines as an airline reservationist for approximately five years in Sacramento before coming to Michigan where she was first employed with Peoples State Bank and then worked for twenty-eight years at Tuscola County Community Mental Health as a living/job skills instructor and bus driver. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro, a member of the Lutheran Church Quilter's Club, co-chair of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, a Stephen Ministry Leader, a member of J.O.Y. - "Just Older Youth" group for senior citizens at St. Paul Lutheran Church where they attended numerous trips and the couple fostered many children over the years. Betty is survived by her husband of over fifty years, Ken Hecht of Caro; three children, Jay D. Hecht of Fairgrove, Troy & Amy Hecht of Vassar, Shannon Hecht of Caro; two daughters-in-law, Jennifer Hecht of Otisville and Kimberly Arnold of Caro; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Mary & Herb Knoppel of Hanover Park, Illinois, Gordon & Tina Churchill of West Branch, Shirley & Robert Herman of Magazine, Arkansas, Penny & Curtis Adams of Mayville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and Jamie Hecht; one grandson, Jason Rumph; and two brothers, Dale and William Floyd Churchill. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Hecht Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Ken Hecht, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, Michigan 48723.
