Betty M. Hurlburt, age 68, of Elkton passed away Sunday morning, April 11, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born August 5, 1941 in Lincoln Twp., near Kinde to the late Bernard and Celia (Horetski) Miller. She grew up in Kinde and was a 1959 graduate of Kinde High School.
On November 25, 1961, she was united in marriage to Sidney Hurlburt at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Kinde and moved to Elkton a short time later.
Betty worked for the Laker School system for 28 years. She started at the Elkton Elementary School working as a teachers' aide, then worked as a high school library aide before becoming the high school secretary for the next fourteen years, retiring in 2001.
Betty worked on the Elkton Election Board and served on the Huron County Jury Commission. She volunteered her time with the auxiliary at the Huron Medical Center Gift Shop. After retiring she kept a presence at Lakers, selling tickets at football, basketball and other sporting events. She was a long time active member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Altar Society. Betty enjoyed life and loved to play cards, quilting, baking, shopping, visiting the casino, traveling, going to the movies, reading and spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Sid; three children, Carrie (Scott) Ellenberger of Pottstown, PA, Dave (Dawn) Hurlburt of Williamston and Linda (Shefik) Idrizi of South Elgin, IL; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Michael, Jon, Brent, Lia, Adam and Maura; her brother, Edward Miller of Kinde, and four sisters, Julia Duym of Clinton Twp., Elaine Ignash of Saginaw, Cathy (Jerry) Dichtel of Clinton Twp and Bernie (Mike) Polega of Kinde. She also had many much loved nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Ervin Miller, Richard Miller, Joey Miller and her sister, Virginia Krug.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, April 15, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Fr. John Weis, pastor, will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Memorials may be given to the Elkton Civic Center, Huron County Relay for Life and Courtney Manor TV fund.
A rosary service will be conducted 6:00 PM Wednesday, by St Francis Altar Society at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton where friends may call from 2 to 9 PM Wednesday and at the church after 10 AM Thursday.
