Betty Jean Kiehl

Betty Jean Kiehl of Caro, age 77, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Caro Community Hospital with her loving daughters by her side. Betty was born July 23, 1942 in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Leslie and Cecelia (McRae) Nelson, moving with her family to Caro at the age of two. The former Betty Jean (Nelson) Marshall was united in marriage with John Kiehl, Jr. on October 25, 1975 in Caro, and following thirty-eight years of marriage, he preceded her in death on September 1, 2014. Betty was employed as head cook at the Tuscola County Sheriff's Department for many years, retiring in March of 1996. She attended the First Baptist Church of Caro. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Tammi Carey and the staff at Carey's Young at Heart AFC Home for the care given to their mother during her stay there. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Martha Marshall, Tina Wallace and her husband, James, and Samantha Martin, all of Caro; one granddaughter, Adrianne Wallace-Povirk and her husband, Gus; two grandsons, Eddy Ashcroft and Jacob Martin; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Emily Ashcroft; siblings and spouses, Dale & Diana Nelson, Ted & Karen Nelson, Dennis & Nancy Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by Jack's children and their spouses, Brenda & Ked Miller of Bad Axe, Ronald & Waynette Kiehl of Mt. Pleasant, Terry Kiehl of Hawaii, and John & Patricia Kiehl of North Carolina. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by one sister, Rosalyn Thompson; and one brother, Wayne Nelson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Marc Herron officiating. Burial will follow at the Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove.
