Betty S. Lafave

Betty S. LaFave of Caro, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Betty was born September 9, 1930, in Gardendale, Alabama, the daughter of the late Thomas & Frances (Wooten) Horne. She moved with her family to Gilford when she was five years old and graduated from Fairgrove High School with the class of 1948. She was united in marriage with Jack Vern LaFave on June 14, 1952, in Gagetown. He preceded her in death in 1992. Betty was a licensed cosmetologist for over forty years and owned LaFave's Beauty Shop on Burnside Street in Caro, later operating from her home on Frank Street. She had a keen eye for fashion, always immaculately dressed with every hair in place, and a perfect shade of lipstick to complement her outfit. Betty was an avid bowler in her younger years. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden and entering her favorite pansies in the county fair each year. Betty was also an avid reader and loved candles. She was a member of St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro, the Caro Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, former president of the Michigan chapter of the National Catholic Women Association, and active with the American Cancer Society. More than anything, she was a devoted mother and grandmother. Left to cherish Betty's memory are five children and their spouses, Jan LaFave of Port Austin, Lanny & LaDonna LaFave of Caro, Terry & Betty Ann LaFave of Caro, Judy & Brian Taylor of Texas, Nancy & Gary Benn of Caro; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by thirteen siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro with Rev. Robert Par officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Caro. Betty's family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
