Betty Jane Lawitzke

Betty Jane Lawitzke of Caro, age 87, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at her home. She was born January 30, 1926 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Walter and Lillian (Fisher) Lange of Port Hope. Betty grew up in Port Hope and was a 1944 graduate of Port Hope High School. She loved to do puzzles during the winter, but in the summer you would find her outside working in her flower beds. Betty collected salt and pepper shakers and had over 150 given to her as gifts by her children, family and friends from all over the United States and Mexico. Betty is survived by one son, Richard (Jodie) Lawitz of Clawson; one daughter, Kathy (James) Deweerdt of Caro; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lawitzke of Troy; four grandchildren, Lynn Lawitzke, Jessica De Paul of Austin, Minnesota, Anna Lawitzke of Longmont, Colorado, James (Tara) Deweerdt of Navarre, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Amara DePaul and Winter Deweerdt; one brother, Walter (Grace) Lange of Port Hope; one sister, Margaret (Vernon) Page of Warren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lawitzke; one brother, James Lange; and one sister, Esther Schmaltz. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Lakeview Cemetery in Port Hope. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to a Food Bank or Animal Shelter of your choice.
