Betty Jane (Dost) Norrington of Caro, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Betty was born December 2, 1928, in Detroit, the daughter of the late Paul and Marie (Trischler) Dost. Betty attended Mayville High School and took a short course at Michigan State University. She married Wilbur Norrington on March 13, 1948, and the couple celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage before his passing in 2014. Betty worked at the Caro State Hospital for twenty years as the head housekeeper of Building 26. She later went on to work for her brother, Don, at the Caro True Value Hardware. When it was sold, she went to work for her nephew, Ken, at the Mayville Ace Hardware. She enjoyed working with and for her family. Betty belonged to the Women of the Moose and State Employees Retirement Association and was an active participant in both. Betty loved golfing, fishing, playing cards, crocheting, collecting stamps and coins, and dancing with Wilbur. She loved to cook and bake, making chocolate candy at Christmas time and canning. Her favorite thing to do was teach her grandchildren and great-grandchildren her skills in the kitchen. She and Wilbur wintered in Florida for twenty years. They loved watching the Detroit Tigers play and enjoyed it when they could attend a game in person. Betty and Wilbur’s favorite pastime was spending time with family; they never missed a wedding, graduation party, or baptism. They loved to load up their motorhome with their nieces and nephews and head to Cedar Point or up north to fish.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Virginia (Thomas) Lounsbury of Cass City; son, W. John (Gloria) Norrington Jr. of Paw Paw; daughter-in-law, Jackie Dost of Midland; sister, Alice Lynch of Caro; brother, Harold (Joann) Dost of Silverwood; sister-in-law, Erlinda Dost of Mayville; eleven grandchildren, Steven, Angela, Amie, Jacob, Joshua, Joseph, Ryan, Shawna, Janice, Jennifer, and Jillian; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father-in law, Roy & Luella Norrington; son, Raymond Dost; an infant daughter; sister, Virginia; brothers, Charlie, Don, Duane, and Paul; nephews, Ronald Dost, Tom Lynch, Charles Dost, and Dennis Beedle; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Dost, Margaret Beedle, Sara Dost, and Frieda Dost; and brother-in-law, Thomas Lynch.
Betty’s family is grateful for the love and care Betty received at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility.
