Betty Sagash

Betty Jo Sagash, age 90, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 surrounded by her family at her home, following a six month illness. She was born August 4, 1920 in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Joseph J. & Lamyra T. (Cannon) Safford. She was united in marriage with Michael Sagash, Jr. on December 9, 1944 in Saginaw, who she met when she was the bookkeeper at Consolidated Freight and he was the dock foreman. They have resided in Caro since 1966. Bettys husband, Michael, preceded her in death on November 29, 1991. Betty was an active and co-founding member, with her twin sister, Beverly J. Safford, of the Living Waters Chapel in Caro and was recognized by the local paper for her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels. During her free time, Betty loved to watch birds out her window with her bird book in hand and enjoyed hosting Monday Night Ladies Bible Study. Surviving Betty are her three children and their spouses, Valerie & David Miner of Clio, Michael M. & Gwen Sagash III of Caro, Cynthia & Hal Somervill of Lansing; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Amy & Ronald van der Putte of Clio, Michael & Kendra Sagash IV of Shelby Township, Matthew Sagash of Muskegon, Justin Sagash of Deford, Elizabeth Sagash of Posen, Jordan & Kaitlyn Longoria of St. Johns, Carrie Longoria of Lansing; eight great-grandchildren; and a very special nephew and his wife, Joseph & Joan Lane of Blairsville, Georgia; and her dear friend, Kay Campbell of Caro.
