Betty Ann Wardhammar

October 2, 1935 — December 1, 2018

Indianapolis

Betty Ann Wardhammar, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Bad Axe and Sand Point, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 in Indianapolis.

Betty Ann was born October 2, 1935 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Carl and Meta (Borner) Reins.

Her early working years were spent as an administrative assistant in New York City’s Empire State Building and then on to Sandvik Steel Corporation in New Jersey.  Later on, she cherished her many years as secretary to the principal at the Bad Axe Junior High School before retiring.

Betty Ann enjoyed visiting with family and friends, singing and playing the organ, watching sports on television, playing yard games and board games, tending her wildflower garden and being outdoors.  Although her life was forever changed by early-onset dementia, Betty Ann was proud to say she was a 2-time breast cancer survivor, and she enjoyed a long, happy retirement.

She is survived by her children Karin (Kent) Shetler of Pigeon, Linda Wardhammar of Indianapolis, Eva (Philip) Chow of McKinney, TX and Brian (Michelle) Wardhammar of Sinking Spring, PA; grandchildren Kate (Evan) Jarvi, Kacy and Koty Shetler, Erik and Jakob Chow, Callie Wardhammar, Kyle and Nicholas Greth; and sister Margot Baxter of Athens, GA.

Visitation will be 4-7 Thursday, December 6th at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.  Private family services will be held with burial in Michigan Ave. Mennonite Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure at www.komen.org or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.  Condolences can be shared at www.ChampagneFuneralChapel.com.
