Blythe Maureen Ewald

Blythe Maureen (Humphrey) Ewald of Fairgrove, age 82, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw, surrounded by love. Blythe was born June 12, 1933 in Bay City, the daughter of the late Otto E. and Beulah B. (Gardner) Humphrey. She was a 1951 graduate of Fairgrove High School and attended Central Michigan College for teaching. Blythe was united in marriage with Allen Keith Ewald on April 11, 1953. Allen preceded her in death on June 23, 2012. Blythe had been employed at the Moore Telephone Company in Caro, and numerous agriculture offices doing secretarial and accounting work. She also worked very hard farming with her husband. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Blythe and Allen did a lot of traveling, visiting light houses, and boating around the United States. She knitted thousands of hats and mittens for children and homeless veterans, loved crossword puzzles, and was so good at them she did them in ink. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Sue & Darrell Popp of Caro, Brenda Ryan of Akron, John & Leigh Ann Ewald of Fairgrove, Brian & Alice Ewald of Sun Lakes, Arizona; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy McCloy of Fairgrove; sisters-in-law, Sandra Ewald of Cheboygan, Marian Kraatz of Allen Park, Donna Ewald of Caro; brother-in-law, Paul & Marilyn Parsons of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews. Blythe was also blessed with many "bonus" children and grandchildren. In keeping with Blythe's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Fairgrove United Methodist Church in Fairgrove. Burial will follow at the Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Saginaw River Marine Historical Society.
