Bonna Jean Southgate

Bonna Jean Southgate was called to her eternal home by her Savior Lord Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Surrounded by her loved ones, Bonna departed peacefully following a brief illness.

Bonna Jean Horst was born the daughter of Lincoln & Lila (Albertson) Horst on December 20, 1934. She was raised on the family farm near Akron, Michigan. Bonna married Volney (Pard) G. Southgate on April 16, 1955 at the Akron Methodist Church. The couple raised their family near Unionville, Michigan.

Bonna and Pard enjoyed spending time at their northern Michigan cottage near Atlanta, MI. Bonna enjoyed fishing, hunting deer & bear in northern Michigan. She was most proud of her successful bear hunt at the age of 72. Her husband, Pard predeceased her in death on November 21, 2011.

Bonna retired from Ameritech (AT&T) in January 1990, with 25 years of service as a Business Service Manager.

Bonna was a member of the Wisner United Methodist Church. Other memberships include the American Legion Auxiliary Post #421; lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; Michigan Chapter Telecom Pioneers; and AT&T Life Member Telecom Pioneers.

A private graveside service with her loved ones and close friends was held at her final resting place in the Demorest Cemetery with Pastor Evan Oh officiating.
