Bonnie Lou Homakie

Bonnie Lou Homakie of Unionville, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. Bonnie was born November 11, 1928, in Caro, the daughter of the late Alva and Norma (Milner) McNeil. On November 1, 1947, Bonnie married John S. Homakie and their marriage was blessed with over seventy-one years, three children, and countless memories before his passing in 2018. Throughout her life, Bonnie was a dedicated member of the Colling Church of the Nazarene. A diligent and hardworking individual, she took pride in ensuring her family was well-fed and taken care of. Bonnie actively contributed to the family farm, operating tractors and trucks as needed, topping sugar beets during harvest, and working alongside her children in the summer by hoeing and clipping weeds. Bonnie loved her lawnmower and could be seen outside mowing well into her nineties.

Her passion for gardening was evident as she maintained a well-kept garden, free of weeds, and preserved the fruits of her labor through extensive canning and freezing. Known for her attention to cleanliness, Bonnie was a meticulous housekeeper. Alongside her husband, John, she explored numerous countries, creating cherished memories with area friends and fellow farmers. After her children were grown, Bonnie worked as a cook at McComb Elementary School in Caro until her retirement.

Bonnie is survived by three children and their spouses, Karen & Frank Storm, Janet & Leonard Walther, and John W. & Heather Homakie; ten grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by her brother, Robert McNeil; and a grandson, Ryan Storm.
